What to Consider when Visiting the Unit before the Short List Is Made

When you read the advertisement for the job, you will discover the invite to meet set members of the unit. It is a healthy idea to at least make some enquiries - even if you do not intend to actually visit. For one thing it will ensure that your name is on somebody’s radar.

You will need to arrange this appointment before you plan your journey. It is common to have many applicants for an advertised job and it may impact of the section to have 50 applicants wandering around the department on the same day. The department will make a conclusion which is usually an all or none conclusion about whether to countenance candidates to visit before the shortlisting process.

The principal intention of the pre-short-listing visit is to assess whether you would like to go for for the job.The interview itself doesn’t formally start at this point however impressions made by you during your visit will stay with you if you decide to apply. It is intelligent to have done some base reading about the hospital and post before you meet the clinical director. Generally speaking you should approach this visit with a similar attitude to the pre-interview visit.

Some sections have unexpressed rules that they will not consider a consultant physician interview application for short-listing unless they have made a pre short-listing visit.
